[NAIJA] Amina Zakari: APC’s strategy for election rigging – GDPN

Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria () has insisted that INEC’s was strategically positioned by the ruling All Progressives Congress to rig presidential polls slated for next month.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Barrister Yelwa Abubakar said in Abuja that Mrs Zakari has antecedents in the past, saying that the APC knew her worth for and that was the reason she was saddled with collation responsibility.

She explained that Mrs Zakari’s role in previous elections in Ekiti and Osun States was not near decency that she could handle collation in next month’s presidential polls.

“We recall the controversy she was enmeshed in during Ekiti and Osun governorship elections. How could such element handle collation of results, if there was no rigging motives?

“APC has identified Mrs Zakari that she is strategic in rigging and that is why the INEC under APC put her there to do their bidding.

“Rigging is not only taking hold of ballot papers during elections, it begins with planning and putting a willing tool where she has access to sensitive materials as it were,” she said.

Yelwa insisted that the controversy was not about being President Buhari’s niece, but that “Amina’s morality has waned completely in handling of collation activities.

“Credibility of INEC is sacrosanct. The perception of INEC in the eyes of Nigerians and international community is that Mrs Zakari is one of them. She should be simply deployed from there and that’s all.

“Besides, it was President Muhammadu Buhari who recommended her to the former President Goodluck Jonathan for appointment as INEC Commissioner then.”

The GDPN Publicity Secretary said that the electoral umpire should act fast in removing Mrs Zakari from collation issues so as not to create voter apathy as Nigerians were feeling concerned.

She was optimistic that GDPN will win the presidential in February, adding that Nigerians should be ready to defend their votes.
