[SOUTHAFRICA] Mexico claim the crown for the first time [video]

The title of Miss World 2018 has been awarded to ’s 
Vanessa Ponce de Leon with Miss Thailand named first runner-up.

It is the first a Miss Mexico winner has been crowned Miss World.

Vanessa shot to fame in Mexico in 2014 when she won reality competition tv show Mexico’s Next Top Model.

She was crowned Miss World by 2017 winner Manushi Chhillar of India. Vanessa is a model by trade and hails from Guanajuato City.

Vanessa completed her Degree in International Business and is currently on the Board of Directors of a Rehab centre for girls and volunteers for ‘Migrantes en el Camino’.  She is involved with a school called Nenemi which helps give intercultural education to children from indigenous tribes in Mexico.

She is a speaker for the National Youth Institute in Mexico as well as working as a model and a presenter.

Vanessa has qualified as an open water scuba diver; she also enjoys playing volleyball, painting and ultimate Frisbee.

Her favourite TV show is ‘Downton Abbey’.

Her personal Motto is: ‘We all need each other.’

South Africa were represented by Thulisa Keyi from East London/Fourways.
