Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar has been constantly calling Barcelona bosses in an effort to convince them to try and bring him back to Camp Nou, according to reports in Spain.
The 26-year-old became the most expensive player in the world when he swapped Catalonia for Paris, though he has not always enjoyed his time in the French capital and frequently returns home to Brazil or Barcelona.
Neymar joined PSG to escape Lionel Messi’s shadow, but has found unexpected competition once again in the form of Kylian Mbappe.
Now Spanish newspaper El Mundo report that Neymar is itching to leave PSG and has personally phoned Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu five times in the past few months.
Neymar first reached out at the end of last season and the phone calls have increased more recently, with both the player and his father ‘begging’ to be allowed to return to Camp Nou.
As well as Bartomeu, Neymar and his camp have also reached out to various other prominent members of Barca’s board, while the attacker has also spoken to his former teammates about a return.
Neymar’s father was criticised by Barca bosses for pushing him towards PSG 18 months ago, but he has admitted privately that he made a mistake and does not believe in the French side’s project.
PSG spent £198m on Neymar and any deal to see him return to Barca would involve similar figures, meaning the Liga leaders would need to offload someone first.
Philippe Coutinho, who has struggled to get in the team in recent weeks, is the prime candidate to make way for Neymar, though PSG will do everything possible to hang onto their most prized asset.
