Former Manchester City youngster Jadon Sancho has insisted that he is happy at Borussia Dortmund and is not thinking about a return to the Premier League.
The 18-year-old, who hails from Camberwell in south London, has emerged as one of the most promising young players in Europe since breaking into Dortmund’s side this time last year.
Sancho has scored six goals and provided seven assists already in the Bundesliga this season and that form resulted in him becoming the tenth youngest player to represent England during the Nations League clash with Croatia in October.
Dortmund spent just £8m to lure him away from City 18-months ago and he has been linked with a return to England for over ten times that amount since.
However, he insisted he will remain with Dortmund for the foreseeable future, saying: ‘I just want to play football and I’m getting that opportunity here. I’m happy right now.
‘[The language barrier] worried me quite a lot, but when I came and everyone started speaking English I got more comfortable. My German isn’t the best but I’m learning, I have to learn.
‘I’ve adapted really well. Obviously when I first came it was a bit difficult because I’m not around the corner from my house. But my family have helped me with that – and the club also.
‘Going abroad wasn’t really a big deal. Since I was young I’ve always been away from home so I was comfortable. I thought ‘why not Germany?’ and look what’s happened now.
‘There were some people that said they weren’t really sure because it’s a big step moving away from home and everyone that I’m close to but I think it’s worked out really well.’
Sancho isn’t the only young English player to make a name for himself in Germany over the past year with both Ademola Lookman and Reiss Nelson also impressing for RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim respectively.
Although Lookman returned to Everton after his loan spell with Leipzig expired at the end of last season, there could be another talented young English player turning out for a German club soon with Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi linked with Bayern Munich.
Bayern have tabled four separate bids for the 18-year-old with the latest offer of £35m being considered by Chelsea. Hudson-Odoi has 18-months remaining on his contract.
Manchester City have seen two of their prized youth assets leave over the past three transfer windows with Brahim Diaz following Sancho out of the exit door, signing for Real Madrid earlier this month.
